Discovery Parks – Broome Review

We stayed at Discovery Parks – Broome in mid-May 2026, choosing a powered site for our stay while exploring Broome and the Dampier Peninsular. We were also preparing for the next leg of our trip, the Gibb River Rd.

For us, this is one of those caravan parks where paying for a powered site makes sense. Established parks often have plenty of mature trees, which provide welcome shade from the Kimberley heat, but they can also dramatically reduce solar output. Rather than worrying about battery levels after several cloudy or shaded days, having mains power simply removes one less thing to think about.

Discovery Parks – Broome is not the cheapest caravan park around, but Broome is not a cheap destination either. We paid around $72 per night for a powered site and, considering the location, facilities, and the fact that Broome is an important supply town for travellers heading north or tackling the Gibb River Road, we felt it represented reasonable value.

Our Experience

We were allocated a site on the lower level near the waterfront, with the beach directly in front of us. It certainly felt more like a holiday destination than just another caravan park. Most evenings we carried our chairs down to the beachfront to watch the sunset, and if you happen to time your stay with the right phase of the moon, this is also a great spot to watch Broome’s famous Staircase to the Moon.

The sites we saw were all relatively level and each included power, water, and a grey water drain, making setup quick and straightforward.

We stayed for just over a week, and several days were quite windy. Being on the lower level gave us a fair amount of protection from the wind, and we suspect the upper section of the park would have been much more exposed during those conditions.

The nearby amenities were excellent. Rather than traditional shared bathrooms, each toilet and shower was contained within its own private cubicle with a lockable door. It is a feature we have not seen at any other caravan park during our travels and it gave you the privacy of an ensuite without having to book an ensuite site. They were clean, spacious, and convenient enough that we used them throughout our stay instead of showering in the caravan.

A public park sits alongside the caravan park, providing an easy walking route into town. It made the location feel practical as well as scenic.

Broome is also an excellent place to stock up before continuing your journey. As the largest town in the Kimberley, you’ll find supermarkets, hardware stores, camping supplies, mechanical services, and just about anything else you might need. If you’re planning to tackle the Gibb River Road, this is the place to buy supplies, organise repairs, and make sure everything is ready before heading off.

The only real downside for us was the regular security reminders. We received daily text messages warning about thefts and encouraging guests to secure their belongings. We never experienced any problems ourselves, but the constant reminders did make us more aware of locking everything away whenever we left the site. It certainly didn’t spoil our stay, but it did slightly change the atmosphere.

Summary

We would happily stay at Discovery Parks – Broome again.

Between the beachfront setting, excellent amenities, and being able to sit outside and watch the sunset each evening, it was one of the more enjoyable caravan parks we have experienced. If your stay happens to coincide with the right time of the month, you may even be treated to Broome’s famous Staircase to the Moon from the beachfront.

If you’re looking for a comfortable, well-equipped caravan park with direct beach access and a great base for exploring Broome or preparing for the Gibb River Road, we have no hesitation in recommending Discovery Parks – Broome.
