Well, this month started off well, then ended badly, with a few unexpected expenses arriving to blow the budget.
First, Shadow needed veterinary treatment—not once, but twice. Then, just to top it all off, our Nissan Patrol broke down and had to be towed.
Fortunately, not everything was bad news, but June will certainly be remembered as one of the more expensive months of our trip.
What Happened
- Car Repair/Main – Our fuel pump decided it no longer wanted to work with us and unexpectedly failed, leaving us stranded in the Kimberley.
- Thankfully, we had roadside assistance, which covered the towing and additional accommodation costs while the vehicle was being repaired. Without that, the final bill would have been considerably higher.
- Dog Expenses – Who would have thought keeping a dog healthy would cost more than keeping a car on the road? Well, this month that’s exactly what happened. It started with a routine check-up, but things quickly went downhill. Shadow was bitten and later ended up with grass seeds embedded in his paws. Both incidents required separate visits to the vet, making June a very expensive month for our four-legged travelling companion.
- General – There was some good news this month—we are now the proud owners of two second-hand e-scooters. They’re nothing fancy or particularly fast, just two road-legal scooters that make getting around towns and caravan parks much easier. Of course, every new purchase brings a new challenge, and now we have to work out the best way to store them while travelling.

Summary
Overall, June was a month of unexpected expenses. Between the Patrol breaking down and Shadow’s two trips to the vet, it certainly wasn’t kind to the budget.
Fortunately, our roadside assistance covered the towing and extra accommodation costs, saving us a significant amount of money and turning what could have been a financial disaster into a manageable inconvenience.
Travelling full time always comes with surprises, most are good, some are expensive, but that’s all part of the adventure.
